Being left is so right

What do scissors, potato peelers and writing all have in common? They’re all designed for people who use their right hands. Only 10 per cent of people are left-handed, and when living in a right-handed world, sometimes things can be difficult. It does, however, supposedly give you an advantage in sports and make you a better fighter, so it’s not all bad.

Down at Big W Gympie, there are quite a large number of left-handed people who work in the store. It’s also International Lefthanders Day this Saturday 13 August, and so Big W Gympie Supervisor Priscilla Nelson thought why not get all the lefties together to celebrate.

“It’s not very often that you find so many people in one store that are left-handed,” she said.

“When you’re a left-hander, people always seem to pick it up.”

With over 10 people in the one store apart of the lefty club, it was too big of a coincidence to ignore. This Saturday, celebrate the lefties in your life. Who knows when you might been another player for your team or help in a brawl.
