A special type of person

People like Lily Van Dorrestein restore my faith in humanity.

Sadly, we often have to report on the very worst types of people – murderers, rapists, paedophiles, and the other unevolved individuals.

But Lily was a true hero.

No shoes on her feet, not a second’s hesitation, she ran down that bank as soon as she heard there was someone in trouble and plunged into the icy cold water to snatch him from the jaws of death.

I have no doubt, the man she rescued had guardian angels looking out for him that night, because Lily said she doesn’t know why she stopped, nor why her phone was on full charge, nor even why she chose to go down the remote Randwick Road when she did.

All those things had to align and had to happen as they did for her to be in just the right place when she was needed most.
