Still no answer on ‘wasted’ money

I would like to thank Dan Stewart for having the courtesy to respond to my earlier letters.

It is also pleasing to see his admission that council has wasted money on pet projects and failed to heed staff advice on fiscal prudence thus leaving us in the financial mess we now appear to be in.

With regard to my standing for council, unfortunately, Dan seems to have a poor memory as whilst 30 years ago I would have considered standing for council I feel being an octogenarian with mobility issues would not allow me to carry out my responsibilities in a manner that the electors deserve.

Having said that, at least I would be prepared to put in a full working week or more in the role and not have it as a second job, albeit a very well-paid one!

I am still waiting for ex-mayor and now councillor, Curran and our now-mayor Hartwig to display the same courtesy and publicly justify the extortionate rate rise of 9.3 per cent and also explain how they could have previously squandered our contingency reserves of some $83,000,000 on pet projects.

Believe me, I will not go away and will continue to remind the citizens of this benighted shire of their collective mismanagement and refusal to justify it right up until the next council elections.

That is provided I live that long!
