Bioeconomy to be unveiled

Gympie Regional Council is hosting the inaugural Gympie Bioeconomy Forum on Friday, 19 April.

This industry-focused event aims to showcase the current landscape and prospects within the bioeconomy sector.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn what the bioeconomy is, understand industry practices and bioeconomy initiatives, network and build connections with potential bioeconomy partners, and explore how Gympie region can lead the way with bioenergy.

The topics covered during the forum will follow four themes, including Defining the Bioeconomy, Forestry, Food and Waste, and Emerging Technology.

The event will feature a distinguished lineup of industry experts, including:

• Sotera Trevaskis (Regional Director, Regional Development Australia Wide Bay Burnett)

• Professor Ian O’Hara (Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at QUT)

• Kylie Hughes (Waste Policy and Legislation, Office of Circular Economy, Dept of Environment and Science)

• Alex Stengl (Director Community Sustainability, Gympie Regional Council)

• Adan Taylor (Managing Director, GMT Logging Pty Ltd)

• Mick Stephens (CEO, Timber Queensland)

• Ian Last (Science Manager, HQPlantations)

• Bill Schulke (Forestry/GLM Specialist, Private Forestry Service Queensland)

• Professor Mark Brown (Professor of Forestry Operations & Director Forest Research Institute, UniSC Australia)

• Deb Archbold (Managing Director, Deborah Wilson Consulting Services)

• Russel Rankin (Director, Food Innovation Partners)

• Nikita Ellison (Sustainability Co-ordinator, Nolan Meats)

• Andrea Polson (Marketing Director, Licella Holdings)

Tickets cost $50 plus GST.

The event will take place at Gympie RSL, 217 Mary Street from 8.30am to 5.15pm.
