Christmas spirit was whipped into action at the Wolvi Hall for their Christmas party featuring world-record whip-cracker, Nathan ’Whippy’ Griggs, last Friday, 8 December.
Guests were welcomed to the tunes of local band, Ausphonic, playing in the hall whilst children played around the bouncy castles, inflatable toys and playground outside.
The headliner of the night was, Guinness World Record holder, Nathan ’Whippy’ Griggs, who treated the crowd to a show of different tricks using his hand-made whips.
He included multiple volunteers throughout his performance, from making kids scream and shout as a part of the ’steam train’, to impromptu whip-cracking lessons and the finale of setting his whips alight for a final set of tricks.
Mr Griggs said he comes to small communities as he believes it brings the community together and supports local halls.
In lieu of taking a cover charge, he will pass his hat around so people can give as little or as much as they like so that everyone can enjoy the show.
“It was fantastic, there was about 400 odd people, I’m really happy with the turnout“ Mr Griggs said.
“I was at the Gympie Muster last year and it’s so good to be back in the area.“
“The region is great, lots of people are into their whip-cracking.“
After his performance, they cracks of whips were heard for many hours after with the inspired children trying their hand at a new skill.
