Gympie Probus Club members recently visited Government House in Paddington. The mansion sits at the top of the hill in Fernberg Road and is surrounded by immaculate gardens. The touring group was warmly welcomed by the tour guides, and the Club had a look around the grounds and then inside for morning tea. Of course, this was served in fine-china cups and saucers.
The Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, was on hand to talk to everyone. She was most gracious, and everyone was delighted that she took the time to come and see the group. One of the members worked at Government House years ago, so everyone felt that they had a connection with the house.
Everyone had a good chance to view the photos, the furnishings, and items from the past. Everything is kept in pristine condition, and will be preserved for generations to come.
After the visit, the coach took the Club to Redcliffe for a roam around and to get lunch.
Everyone agreed that it was an informative and educational day and it was good to see that traditions and history are in good hands.
